Weddings are Expensive

Weddings are expensive because they are not just a party. The amount of time taken to provide a high level of service, deliver quality products, and the labor needed to execute a great wedding costs money, and there is no way around it.

The average cost of getting married in the US in 2019 is $38,700 for engagement through the honeymoon. Seeing this price might send you into shock, or it might seem like the deal of the century depending on what you have in mind for your wedding and the number of guests you are considering.

Today’s couples are looking to create a highly personalized experience that often combines cultural customs and special touches that are a true expression of them as a couple.

Creating this experience usually involves hiring a wedding planner to assist with all aspects of the wedding, from concept to completion.

The overall guest experience starts way before you walk down the aisle. It begins with your invitations and wedding website. You want to make it user friendly and comfortable for your guests to navigate. When they arrive in town, a welcome amenity is a nice touch to thank them for coming. This amenity might have an overall schedule for the weekend, some local goodies such as wine, chocolate, or other treats, and of course, a hang-over remedy kit.

Best-in-class vendors are hired locally and sometimes from afar to make the day unforgettable. From florists to photographers, you are looking to bring in the A-Team!  A sitar player from LA might be the perfect entertainment for cocktail hour at an Indian wedding. Or a cigar roller the right fit for the after-dinner Scotch bar. Whatever it might be, these special touches will reflect you as a couple and add to your guest’s overall experience.

Food and alcohol are a significant part of the average wedding cost. Many couples these days are self-described “foodies” and have often traveled the world.  The food should be tasty and exciting. Nobody wants “wedding food.” A locally focused and seasonal menu might be the ticket or an interesting combo of cultures featuring Ethiopian wat and Swiss rösti.

A great party always has excellent drinks! Signature bride and groom cocktails have become quite popular, including margarita bars, craft beers, and artisanal spirits, to name a few. What do you love?

Taking good care of your guests, sharing good food and wine, and creating a day that leaves everyone saying, “that was so them” can be expensive. But it is your wedding day, after all, live it up if you can afford to!
