How do you know what wedding lighting is right for you?
Lighting is an often-overlooked element of décor. Just a few strategically placed up-lights can magically makeover a venue and add a “wow” factor.
Up-lighting is a popular lighting effect created by strategically placing lighting fixtures on the floor and pointing them up, thus producing “up-lighting“. Up-lighting is a very effective way to improve the ambiance of the event space dramatically.
Here are a few things to consider in creating a tasteful and elegant setting.
Up-lighting can take a room from drab to dreamy. Think about turning off the overhead lights that can be bright and harsh and combining lots of candlelight on the tables with up-lights around the perimeter of the room.
For the most flattering up-lighting, choose amber gels. Not only will your guests look great, but it will give the space a warm and romantic glow. If you want to include other colors such as purple, magenta, or blue, use these on the dance floor. Many of the up-lights can easily change colors for a vibrant splash of color.
Focus on the essential areas.
Ensure the escort card table, cake table, dining area, and any spectacular florals are well lit. Often pathways and parking areas need extra light, particularly in rustic locations where there is not much existing lighting.
Each light will illuminate roughly a 3-4 foot area of the wall. Place the lights 6-12 feet apart depending on how much light, color, and brightness you want to create the desired effect.
|Room Capacity||Accent Lighting||Full Coverage|
|150||14 uplights||28 uplights|
|200||18 uplights||40 uplights|
|250||22 uplights||50 uplights|
|300+||28 uplights||60+ uplights|
Have fun adding some strategically placed up-lights to your wedding for a look and feel sure to create a memorable event.
