How to Achieve Dramatic Design at your Wedding
Have you ever sat in a chair or car seat that just did not feel comfortable? Odds are it wasn’t, at least for you. As we know, we are all different. Heights, weights, leg vs torso length, stronger, weaker, more or less mobile, it all adds up to ensure that the only thing you can be sure of is that not everyone wants to sit in “that” chair.
Even if this was not the case, the uniformity of a reception layout may not scratch your design itch. The exact same round tables surrounding a dance floor may be a little too “cookie cutter” to you, perhaps?
One of the best ways we know to address both issues is to vary the height and shape of the tables at your reception.
Here are some suggestions and reasons why you should consider this arrangement:
- Try different shaped tables
If everyone liked round dining tables, there wouldn’t be so many square or rectangular ones in the market. Since there are, why not use a variety of shapes in your reception and mix it up a bit? Each shape creates a different conversation pattern and enables your guests to also experience a different vibe as they table hop during the evening.
- Consider bringing them up a notch
In addition to the shapes, we have found that couples that put tables on risers or rent bar height tables to also create a great look that serves an excellent function. Typically, the tables around the edges are not the prime seating (sorry but it’s true), and mathematically, not everyone can sit next to you. By raising the tables, you create a balcony feel around the perimeter, the interior feels more protected, those that sit at the raised tables from our experience are a bit more mobile and a bit more active and now you have taken areas that are outside of the action and made them a key part of it.
Of course, different shapes and heights beg for different seating so now you have a green light to select some complimentary seating alternatives that offer more options for your short-legged aunt or your long torso’ed friend from college.
